There are many million animals in our world. There are dogs, cats, birds, fishes, insects, horses, and many more. Actually, there are just too many of them to include here. Every animal is popular in their own way. Many animals are being used as a cartoon character. Some animals also have some religious relevance to some religions. And lastly, there exists animal actors such as “Lassie” and “Orangey”.

In here we will talk about cats and their popularity to people.

Cats, or felis catus, is a mammal that is domesticated and are valued for the companionship that they give. Cats are also valued for they have the ability to hunt many household pests and rodents due to their adaptability, rapid breeding rate, and predatory instincts. These qualities makes them effective hunters. Currently, the cat is the most popular pet in the world and can be found almost everywhere on Earth. At approximately 9,500 years, cats and humans have been associated with each other.

These days, cats are very popular, especially with today's mass media technology. There also exists “cat actors”. Also, there is the musical “Cats” which is adapted to television afterwards. Lastly, especially on cartoon shows, there are many characters that are based on cats. Who hasn't heard of Garfield, Puss in Boots, and Meowth? This great number of cat characters is a testament to their popularity now. Some kids even dress up as a cat or a cat cartoon character during Halloweens. I often see during the Halloween children dressed as Garfield or wearing a Puss in Boots Costume. They even “meow” while wearing their Garfield or Puss in Boots Costume to make their costume more convincing.

However, there also exists dogs, which are a hindrance to a cats rise in popularity. Dogs are also popular today. They also have their own cartoons, Pokemon, shows, and almost everything else the cats have. Some even say that dogs are equally, or even more, popular than their feline counterparts. But still, more people prefer cats over to dogs. Reasons for this vary, but I personally think that this is because cats are more gentle and cute than some dogs, but not all of them. But lets just let the dog lovers be. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, remember that.

The popularity of cats are continuously growing each passing day, especially over the mass media. Many individuals are starting to like them because of their natural charm and cuteness. You just gotta hand it to the feline species! They are one, if not the, most popular animals on the planet. Doesn't that make you cat lovers happy?
