The bus full of Austrians was heading to Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina when it smashed into a fence along the motorway close to Sestanovac in southern Croatia. There were 47 travellers on the bus.

Medjugorje is one of the villages of the Western Herzegovina municipality of Citluk in the former Yugoslavia. The name Medjugorje is Slavic and means "area between two moutains". This real life story takes place in the Bijakovici section of Medjugorje. On the afternoon of June twenty-four, 1981, two girls, Ivanka Ivankovic, age 15, and Mirjana Dragicevic, age 16, were coming back home from a walk. Looking towards the hill called Crnica, Ivanka saw a bright outline of a lady. She revealed to Mirjana, "It is the Gospa!" (Our Woman).
On June twenty-five, the 2 girls returned to the hill with four others. Their names are, Vicka Ivankovic, age 16, Ivan Dragivevic, age 16, Maria Pavlovic, age sixteen and Jakov Colo, age ten. A figure in white was calling them to come up the hill. The youngsters were somehow transported in some confusing way to a gorgeous Lady who calls herself, the Queen of Peace. The Woman gives messages to the seers for the entire world. To date, the Queen of Peace has left thousands of messages. At first, the messages were almost everyday. Now, for the past one or two years, they come on the 25th of each month.

With A Great Deal Of Publicity Surrounding The Intention To Close Many Libraries, It’s Worth Having A Think About How Much You Read And Why You Do So
With the news recently surrounding the government’s proposals to close a lot of libraries, I began to wonder how many books I have read throughout my life so far. As a youngster and teenager, I was regularly in the library round the corner from my house finding exciting books to read and new authors to become interested in. My childhood was such that the TV was hardly ever switched on, and so I’m quite sure that I read considerably more than the majority of my school friends.
For much of that phase I was obsessed with Enid Blyton’s works, especially the Famous Five, Secret Seven and Malory Towers series of paperbacks and I read them all repeatedly. I’m sure that a large part of why I loved them was because they were so utterly the opposite of my own life and consequently it was an imaginary world that I could engross myself in. I would often finish several books each week, finishing some of them by torchlight late at night under the bedclothes. Considering the amount of time I spent reading like this, I’m very surprised that I’m not yet a candidate for Laser eye surgery!
Having tired of such books by the time I reached grammar school, I moved on to more mature books and soon became a big fan of writers like Agatha Christie and Dorothy L Sayers. I had no interest in the slushy love stories that a lot my class mates said were so riveting – all I wanted was a good murder which had to be solved and I was more than happy!
Strangely, taking into account my love of reading and the fact that I was doing English Literature at school, I read remarkably few ‘classics’ in my younger years, but with the exception of the set books for my studies, I wasn’t encouraged to explore any particular authors, so I had to seek out my own favoured authors for my literary experiences.
In recent years, my preferences for books have changed a lot, and whilst research may suggest something else, I believe that intellectually I am still becoming more capable (though sadly that potential Laser eye treatment I said about could soon become necessary!). But classics that I struggled to read when I was a lot younger have been a pleasure to read in the last few years. Writers like James Joyce seemed to be beyond my understanding until recently, when I read two of his volumes in quick succession and really enjoyed them. So I’ve already begun to work my way through a selection of the literary masterpieces by other authors who are thought of as ‘must read’ candidates.
But moving completely away from the classics, I also like Terry Pratchett. His Discworld series of books are witty, clever and very good indeed at making you stop and think as he frequently illustrates the strange ways of humans via the non-human characters on Discworld. Other fantasy writers such as Tom Holt and Robert Rankin also get my seal of approval, because they too produce funny and clever stories (but you maybe do need a slightly odd kind of mind to buy into the idea of a portable door or a sprout residing in someone’s head or a straightforward writing implement which is manipulated by a Laser eye beam!) I’m also keen on thrillers penned by authors like Lee Child and Jonathan Kellerman – stories with well planned plot-lines where you can always sympathise with the lead character.
I do also read a lot of factual history books. I can happily sit and read about almost any time in history and historical events. Though this can be quite distracting when I’m carrying out research as I will end up looking through a load of irrelevant facts just because I want to know more. I think that the most distracted I’ve been recently was researching Laser eye surgery – nearly a day later I’d not written anything, but was an expert on medical science all the way back to ancient times!
I am just a bit ashamed to say that I have never read any book by Charles Dickens. But the main reason that this is a bit embarrassing is that my house is in the village where he spent the last few years of his life, and for this reason, he is something of a local celebrity. I think that I should probably attempt at some of his books one day, especially when so many local landmarks are described in them, but sorry Charles, you’re not on my list for the time being.

Medjugorje – A Group Of 8 Pilgrims In Medjugorje Walking From Belgium
Medjugorje "A bunch of 8 travellers arrived in Medjugorje on Monday 16th May 2011. Walking from Belgium. The leader of the route was Marko Pini, who in an interview for the radio station Mir Medjugorje, together with his wife Yvonne Lespagnard talked about this unusual venture. Marko was born in Zadar, married with Yvonne from Belgium for many years and he is living with his folks in Belgium,writes wordpress.com.
Medjugorje - Since 1981, in a small town in Bosnia-Herzegovina named Medjugorje, the Blessed Virgin Mary has been appearing and giving messages to the planet. In Her own words She tells us, "I have come to tell the world that God exists. He is the fullness of life, and to take pleasure in this fullness and peace, you need to return to God". The following is an account of the beginning of the Apparitions ;
On the 24th June 1981, on the hill known as Podbrdo (Apparition Hill) 6 youngsters, Ivanka Ivankovic, Mirjana Dragicevic, Vicka Ivankovic, Ivan Dragicevic, Ivan Ivankovic and Milka Pavlovic saw a pretty young Girl carrying a little child in her arms. They were frightened at what they saw and did not come closer, although the Girl waved them closer. They knew this Girl was Our Lady.
The next day, the 25th of June 1981, the youngsters went to the same place where Our Lady had appeared the previous day in hope of seeing Her again. Nonetheless the group of youngsters had changed somewhat ; Ivan Ivankovic and Milka Pavlovic were replaced by 2 others, Marija Pavlovic and Jakov Colo. With the flash of a light, the 6 youngsters looked up and saw Our Lady, this time without the child.
When they reached Her, they fell to their knees and began to pray with Our Lady. Before Our Lady left the youngsters, She said, "God be with you my angels!" There's been only five days where no apparitions happened. Medjugorje has been a place of peace, hope and inspiration for so many . The Word of God is alive in Medjugorje as well as conversion.
In Medjugorje, you may follow the group program or elect to be on your own. Every day (in the language of your choice) you are welcome to take part the celebration of the Eucharist and attend talks, concerning our Blessed Mother's messages with Monks, Visionaries, nuns and others, trip to Cenacolo at the Hamlet of Bijakovici, where local craftsmen and workmen give testimony to Our Lady's work in their lives.
You'll visit Bijakovici to see the visionaries and their houses, and to meditate at the Blue Cross Mountain. Morning climbs will be planned for our groups for Podbrdo Mountain (Apparition hill) and Krizevac Mountain (Cross mountain). Your guide will accompany you as you follow the same path up Apparition Hill where the young visionaries first encountered Our Woman.
As you climb, you can see the inspired dexterity of the bronze plaques depicting each poser of the rosary and touch and pray before the cross that remembers the spot where Mary appeared to the visionaries. In 1933, the villagers built a thirty-foot cross at Cross Mountain, to remember the 1900 year anniversary of Christ's crucifixion.
Each evening you are welcome to join the other travellers and the parish community of St. James Church for the recitation of the Rosary, the party of the Eucharist, and prayers for the sick. On alternative evenings you will have the opportunity to attend the Holy Hour of Devotion of the Blessed Sacrament or Veneration of the Cross.
Early afternoon talks are typically held in the green tents or at the rotunda-circular lectern stage at the back of St. James Church. Sometimes they're booked in the evening and at the very last minute, so always listen for the press releases after the morning and evening Mass. Changes to schedules could be recounted also.
Contingent upon his schedule, you may visit Pop Jozo's parish to attend his holy preaching. When the apparitions commenced in 1981, Father Jozo was the pastor of St James parish. He is considered by many to be the highlight of a pilgrimage to Medjugorje.
The place of Our Lady's first apparitions on the hill of Crnica is mostly called Apparition Hill. It is situated a couple of hundred meters above the Bijakovo hamlet of Podbrdo. A steep footpath leads from the houses to the very place of the apparitions. Now slightly widened by the uncountable millions of travellers who have so far paid a visit to the place of the first apparitions, the trail has become detectable from as far distant as St. James.
Numerous travellers, many of whom were born on flat asphalt, regularly in unsuitable clothing or shoeless, and on their knees, climbed over the pointed stones to the place of Our Lady's first apparitions.
Half way up the trail is located a massive plain wooden cross. Here's where on the third day of the apparitions, June twenty-six, 1981, Our Woman appeared to the visionary Marija Pavlovic who, after having had a vision with the others at the common place that evening, ran down the hill a little ahead of the other visionaries.
At this place Marija once again saw Our Woman, now with a sorrowful face. Behind her was a giant cross and motioning with her hands she said, "Peace, peace, peace and only peace! Peace must reign between God and man and also between men!" Today this is a place where travellers stop, remaining in prayer and reflection on the message given by Our Lady, directed to occupy, and the sector of today, which is so much in such great need of peace.

Every day (in the language of your choice) you are welcome to take part the celebration of the Eucharist and attend talks, concerning our Blessed Mother's messages with Monks, Visionaries, nuns and others, trip to Cenacolo at the Hamlet of Bijakovici, where local craftsmen and workmen give testimony to Our Lady's work in their lives.
You'll visit Bijakovici to see the visionaries and their houses, and to meditate at the Blue Cross Mountain. Morning climbs will be planned for our groups for Podbrdo Mountain (Apparition hill) and Krizevac Mountain (Cross mountain). Your guide will accompany you as you follow the same path up Apparition Hill where the young visionaries first encountered Our Woman.
As you climb, you can see the inspired dexterity of the bronze plaques depicting each poser of the rosary and touch and pray before the cross that remembers the spot where Mary appeared to the visionaries. In 1933, the villagers built a thirty-foot cross at Cross Mountain, to remember the 1900 year anniversary of Christ's crucifixion.
Each evening you are welcome to join the other travellers and the parish community of St. James Church for the recitation of the Rosary, the party of the Eucharist, and prayers for the sick. On alternative evenings you will have the opportunity to attend the Holy Hour of Devotion of the Blessed Sacrament or Veneration of the Cross.
Early afternoon talks are typically held in the green tents or at the rotunda-circular lectern stage at the back of St. James Church. Sometimes they're booked in the evening and at the very last minute, so always listen for the press releases after the morning and evening Mass. Changes to schedules could be recounted also.
Contingent upon his schedule, you may visit Pop Jozo's parish to attend his holy preaching. When the apparitions commenced in 1981, Father Jozo was the pastor of St James parish. He is considered by many to be the highlight of a pilgrimage to Medjugorje.
The place of Our Lady's first apparitions on the hill of Crnica is mostly called Apparition Hill. It is situated a couple of hundred meters above the Bijakovo hamlet of Podbrdo. A steep footpath leads from the houses to the very place of the apparitions. Now slightly widened by the uncountable millions of travellers who have so far paid a visit to the place of the first apparitions, the trail has become detectable from as far distant as St. James.
Numerous travellers, many of whom were born on flat asphalt, regularly in unsuitable clothing or shoeless, and on their knees, climbed over the pointed stones to the place of Our Lady's first apparitions.
Half way up the trail is located a massive plain wooden cross. Here's where on the third day of the apparitions, June twenty-six, 1981, Our Woman appeared to the visionary Marija Pavlovic who, after having had a vision with the others at the common place that evening, ran down the hill a little ahead of the other visionaries.
At this place Marija once again saw Our Woman, now with a sorrowful face. Behind her was a giant cross and motioning with her hands she said, "Peace, peace, peace and only peace! Peace must reign between God and man and also between men!" Today this is a place where travellers stop, remaining in prayer and reflection on the message given by Our Lady, directed to occupy, and the sector of today, which is so much in such great need of peace.
