Does Your Cat Smell? It's Time For a Grooming

How to Wash Your Cat At Home

A lot of people have the misconception that cats do require baths as they just lick themselves clean. That is not the case. Your cat even if it never ventures outside will attract dirt and requires frequent and thorough cleaning.

It’s a well known fact that cats hate water and forcing a cat into a bathtub can results in injury for the cat or yourself. That being said, a bathtub or sink does not need to have has much water into it as to submerge the cat completely. A few inches of warm water is quite enough to get the job done.

You might want to add a protective surface to the bottom of the bathtub, or if you don’t have any, a simple towel will prevent your cat from scratching the bottom of the tub.

Get prepared in advance, as you don’t want to leave the cat in the tub while you go grab the baby soap or a. Have everything in place before you start and the whole process will be much smoother.

Here are a few things you may need:
  • Tub Liner
  • Helper
  • Soap
  • Rubber Gloves
  • Cat Shampoo

Use a large cup or small bucket to gently wet your cat, you could always use the hand shower if you have that option. Do not use adult soap, use something gentle like baby shampoo or buy specialized cat soap that is available in pet shops.

After the lather rinse and repeat cycle, wrap your cat in a large fluffy towel for a few moments, Again, avoid grooming your pet by doing stuff you do yourself like using a hairdryer or iron on your pet, instead, let the cat finish it’s grooming on its own terms and you have a clean and fresh smelling pet.
