Aspira CE Offers The Coursework Required for Individuals Interested In the Newly Established LPCC License in California

For those previously seeking MFT continuing education, California is offering a new option. The CA BBS (Board of Behavioral Sciences) has implemented a new license, the LPCC (licensed professional clinical counselor). Mental health professionals licensed outside of California are able to apply. The CA BBS has created a temporary path for those seeking this new license. This path is called the "grandparenting" path. For the licensed professional from outside of California, their requirements will not be the same as those already licensed in California. All non-BBS licensees will be required to complete additional coursework.

Aspira Continuing Education now offers all of these additional courses needed to meet the requirements for non-BBS applicants seeking the CA LPCC license through the grandparenting path. These courses are in addition to the required core content areas that should have been covered in the licensed professional's masters degree or doctorate degree programs. The extra coursework needed can be attained from a CA BBS approved online CEU provider (Aspira CE is a CA BBS approved provider). The courses and their corresponding number of required hours are as follows:

* 15 contact hours of training in alcoholism and other chemical substance abuse dependency;

* 10 contact hours of training in human sexuality;

* 15 contact hours of training in spousal or partner abuse assessment, detection, and intervention;

* 7 contact hours of training in child abuse assessment and reporting;

* 18 contact hours of training in California law and professional ethics;

* 10 contact hours of training in aging and long-term care; and,

* 15 contact hours of instruction in crisis or trauma counseling.

Aspira has made some new additions to their course listing over the last few months. Due to these additions, Aspira CE now has the courses to meet each requirement listed above. "Now, those seeking licensure with the CA BBS as an LPCC can meet all of their extra coursework in one place", said Nicole Hiltibran, MA, LMFT, CEO of Aspira Continuing Education. "This really simplifies the process during this window of opportunity of the grandparenting path provided by the CA BBS."

In addition to these specific courses for the LPCC license, Aspira Continuing Education offers several other courses that are beneficial to those needing to renew their current license, whether it is in social work, marriage and family therapy or counseling. Aspira is the proverbial one-stop-shop for those seeking continuing education in the mental health and social work fields, in California and across the Unites States.
